Biography
David is responsible for overall administration and strategic direction of Illinois Retina's ten locations.
David was born and raised on the East Coast. After graduating in 1974 from Mount Saint Mary's College (Emmitsburg, Maryland), he began a career in medical photography at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). It was there that he met Dr. David Orth and provided the photography for one of Dr. Orth's publications. In 1976, that led to a choice: stay at Johns Hopkins or begin a new career as an ophthalmic photographer. His decision: to move to Illinois and join the Retinal Vascular Department Dr. Orth had founded at Ingalls Hospital in the south Chicago suburb of Harvey.
David grew with the department, becoming its supervisor and then its administrative director. Meanwhile, he continued his education in business and healthcare management, receiving his MBA in finance from Loyola University (Chicago) in 1991. David still holds the position of Director of the Irwin Retina Center at Ingalls Hospital. But in 1987 he assumed the additional role of Administrator of Illinois Retina Associates.
At that time, Illinois Retina had three physicians, seven employees and two locations. Over the past years, David has participated in the expansion and growth of Illinois Retina to its current scope of eleven physicians, 80 employees and eleven locations.
David is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, the Medical Group Management Association, the Illinois Medical Group Management Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology Executives, American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators and Society of Human Resource Management. He serves these organizations on a number of committees. He also serves on a number of advisory boards for equipment and pharmaceutical companies. David and his wife, Nancy, have two college-aged children. They enjoy spending time attending activities and sporting events at their children's universities. David is also involved in Scouting and other Community Service organizations and sits on a number of local and regional committees and boards.
