Rishabh Gupta, MD - Fellow

Rishabh Gupta, MD grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and completed his undergraduate and medical education through the six-year BA/MD program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine, graduating with honors and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. During medical school, he developed a strong interest in ophthalmology and academic medicine, which led him to pursue a dedicated research year at the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His work focused on translational research investigating stem cell-based therapeutics for age-related macular degeneration and their potential role in the treatment of retinal disease.
Rishabh completed his ophthalmology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. Throughout residency, he developed a particular interest in vitreoretinal disease and surgery while contributing to numerous research projects, peer-reviewed publications, and national presentations. His research interests include epiretinal membranes, retinal imaging, and surgical outcomes in vitreoretinal disease.
Rishabh is excited to continue his training in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases through fellowship at Illinois Retina Associates and Rush University Medical Center. He looks forward to advancing his surgical skills, caring for patients with complex retinal conditions, and contributing to ongoing clinical research in the field.
Outside of medicine, Rishabh enjoys playing tennis, cycling along Chicago's lakefront and regional trails, exploring new restaurants, attending live music and concerts, and traveling. He is also looking forward to spending more time on the golf course and improving his game during his time in Chicago.
