Paul de Bustros, MD

Paul de Bustros, MD grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago in Flossmoor, IL. He attended medical school at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine where he found an interest in ophthalmology research specifically focusing on characterizing the ocular surface microbiome in patients with severe ocular surface diseases.
Paul remained at Loyola University Medical Center for his ophthalmology residency where he developed a strong foundation in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of ocular pathology and served as the chief resident in his final year.
During residency he developed a specific interest in retinal disease and pursued research focusing on assessing the utility of non-invasive imaging modalities for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
Paul is looking forward to advancing his training in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases with Illinois Retina Associates and Rush University Medical Center.
In his spare time, Paul enjoys staying active by playing tennis, skiing, and running. He spends time with his family and friends exploring new restaurants in Chicago.
