Dr. Sohail J. Hasan Presents on Federal Advocacy at ISEPS/COS Meeting
On March 13, 2026, Sohail J. Hasan, MD, PhD, FACS, FASRS, FRCSC, Chair of OPHTHPAC of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Chair of the Retina Consultants of America (RCA) Advocacy Committee, participated in an advocacy panel at the ISEPS/COS Conference.
Dr. Hasan delivered a presentation titled “Federal Advocacy in Action: Protecting Ophthalmology, Our Practices and Our Patients.” His talk highlighted key federal advocacy priorities impacting ophthalmology and retina practices, including ongoing challenges related to Medicare reimbursement, prior authorization burdens, and federal scope-of-practice initiatives that could affect patient safety and physician-led care.
Drawing on his experience in national advocacy efforts, Dr. Hasan emphasized the importance of physician engagement in shaping federal health policy and protecting the ability of ophthalmologists to deliver high-quality care for patients. The presentation also highlighted the ongoing advocacy work of the AAO and OPHTHPAC, which continue to advance policies that support physicians, protect practices, and improve patient access to care.
Dr. Hasan was joined at the meeting by several colleagues from Illinois Retina Associates, including Dr. J.D. Wilgucki, II, Dr. Vivek Chaturvedi, and IRA CEO, Robert Lea.
During the meeting, Dr. Hasan also participated in recognizing the recipients of the ISEPS Global Ophthalmology Humanitarian Award. Dr. Hasan serves as Director, ISEPS Global Ophthalmology Foundation, which supports global ophthalmology initiatives and humanitarian efforts aimed at expanding access to eye care worldwide.
